报告题目:From microbiome to personalized nutrition: the study of CAZymes that degrade fiber
报告摘要:The human gut, especially the large intestine (or colon), is a carbohydrate rich environment with a very high diversity of carbohydrates (also known as fibers or glycans). Dietary fiber degradation by human gut microbiota can produce a variety of health-promoting metabolites, e.g., short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) The western diets are known to be unhealthy as it lacks sufficient dietary fibers, leading to various metabolic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, intestinal bowel disease, and obesity). To fully digest diverse complex fibers and produce beneficial SCFAs, human gut bacteria dedicate up to 10% of their genes encoding carbohydrate active enzymes (CAZymes), the key enzymes involved in fiber degradation. Personalized dietary fiber intervention, by giving different dietary fibers as prebiotics to different individuals, is an effective strategy to nurture a healthy gut microbiome and thus enable personalized nutrition for disease prevention. In this seminar. I will introduce the history of dbCAN. a software system that can predict CAZyme repertories in microbiome sequencing samples. After the continuous development since 2012, the dbCAN software system currently consists of a command-line package run_dbcan and a web server that integrates a suite of CAZyme bioinformatics tools. dbCAN is the most popular bioinformatics software tool for automated CAZyme annotation in microbiomes with a large user base.
报告人简介:
尹燕斌,美国内布拉斯加大学(University of Nebraska Lincoin)食品科学和工程系教授,内布拉斯加食品和人类健康中心PI,研究方向为生物信息工具研发、计算和进化基因组学。2005年在北京大学生命科学学院生物信息中心获生物信息学博士学位,导师为李松岗教授和罗静初教授。随后在美国纽约州立布法罗大学计算机系、佐治亚大学生物信息研究所先后任博士后和研究科学家,合作导师分别为Daniel Fischer教授和徐鹰(Ying Xu)教授。尹教授长期以来研究植物细胞壁和碳水化合物酶(CAZyme),开发并利用生物信息工具来自动挖掘微生物以及植物基因组中的CAZyme,促进其在生物能源,肠道菌群,和人类健康中的基础和应用研究。课题组开发的dbCAN系列工具成为最常用的CAZyme自动功能注释工具,dbCAN的三篇web server文章均为高被引和热点文章(cited>4,500 times)。尹教授在Nature Genetics、PNAS、Nucleic Acids Research、mBio、Bioinformatics等国际重要学术刊物发表第一或通讯作者论文六十余篇,总计SCI论文120多篇,谷歌学术引用超万次,2020-2024年位列Stanford/Elsevier TOP 2% Scientists。2017年获得美国NSF CAREER Award 奖,目前实验室的研究获得美国国立卫生研究院(NIH)R01和农业部的资助。
